Michael and Dr. Damaris go through the symptoms he’s seen while helping clients remediate their homes and how much it’s impacted their lives. They discuss the issues of misinformation and disagreement on how mold exposure can affect health and why no species of mold is safe to live with inside of a home. Some species of mold may trigger an allergic reaction, and others can create microscopic toxins called mycotoxins. With over 100,000 species, you never know how the mold will affect the bodies of those exposed.
They also discuss what tests individuals can take to determine if they’ve been exposed to mycotoxins and how this could be used to determine a poor indoor environment at home. This ability to affect health is why it’s so important to consider environmental factors when thinking of a diagnosis for symptoms.
When it comes to which houses are prone to mold, the answer is: all homes. Any home can have mold growth occur at any time if preventative measures aren’t taken to stop it. Homes that weren’t built with mold prevention in mind can also be more prone to mold growth.
The biggest piece of the puzzle in solving the indoor mold growth issue is to increase our own personal awareness and start taking action to prevent it as soon as possible.
